“Opal” is a work very close to my heart as a motif of the “thresholds”, “transitions” or “portals” that life continually beckons us through, only for us to emerge renewed in our next expression of the ever-expanding self. I wanted to create the effect of an innate luminance where Opal appears to glow from within and shifts in tone depending on the light. This theme of transformation is expressed firstly in the way Opal interacts with light, shadow and change throughout the day. And secondly, in how the viewer interacts with Opal, witnessing it from one perspective / one state of being to the next. I intended Opal to be an immersive reflection of life’s fluidity.
